Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), has articulated an ambitious vision for Saudi Arabia’s National Aviation Strategy, aiming to position the Kingdom as one of the leading global logistics hubs by 2030. His remarks were made during a panel discussion at the Global Logistics Forum 2024 in Riyadh, where he addressed the critical role of air freight in enhancing the Kingdom’s prominence in the global logistics sector.
Strategic Geographical Advantage
In his address, Al-Duailej emphasized the unique geographical positioning of Saudi Arabia, which lies at the crossroads of three continents. He pointed out that nearly 50 percent of the world’s population is within a five-hour flight from the Kingdom. This geographical advantage is increasingly significant in today’s world, where supply chains are under mounting pressure from geopolitical factors, necessitating agile and responsive logistics solutions.
Expansion of Air Freight Capabilities
To support this vision, Al-Duailej announced plans to expand the Kingdom’s air freight capabilities substantially. The current fleet of seven cargo planes is set to grow to 27, achieved through collaboration with national carriers. This initiative is crucial for meeting the Kingdom’s air freight ambitions, as the overall number of aircraft is projected to rise from 241 to a remarkable 657 by 2030. This ambitious target includes 187 wide-body and 470 narrow-body aircraft, a strategic move designed to position Saudi Arabia’s aviation infrastructure as a globally competitive powerhouse.
